VALENTINE'S DAY M&M COOKIE RECIPE

I love this recipe because it can be used for any holiday by just changing the color of the M&Ms. Red and green for Christmas, black and orange for Halloween, and even red, white, and blue for the 4th of July! Baking is one of my favorite past times and de-stresser.

I started baking and cooking at a young age with my grandma and it’s grown into something I try to do everyday! I love to blast some music or a podcast and bust out some treats, especially using my mixer. Honestly, any excuse to use it, I’m down. BUT you definitely don’t need a mixer to make these.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

  • 1/2 cup of granulated white sugar

  • 3/4 cup of firmly packed golden brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt

  • 13 tablespoons of butter

  • 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 large egg yolk

  • 1 cup of semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips

  • 1 cup of white chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup of M&M's plus additional for topping cookie before baking

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line baking sheet with parchment paper OR foil

  2. Melt butter and set aside to cool COMPLETELY. I put mine in the fridge for about 5 minutes to help it cool faster.

  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda.

  4. In the bowl of a stand mixer OR large bowl, combine cooled butter, white sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and salt. Beat on medium speed until well combined, about 2 minutes. You can use a hand mixer if you don’t have a stand mixer.

  5. Add egg and egg yolk, scraping down sides of bowl as necessary.

  6. Add in flour mixture and continue mixing until incorporated.

  7. Add in chocolate chips and M&M's.

  8. Mix up the dough and then create 1/4 cup of dough and shape into balls. Dough will be soft but still able to shape into balls.

  9. Press them down a little on the baking sheet.

  10. Top each cookie with M&Ms and then place in the oven.

  11. Bake 10 minutes, just until edges are a light golden brown.

  12. Cookie should look slightly under done.

  13. Don't over bake as cookie will continue baking as it cools.

Let cookies cool completely and then serve, bag up as gifts, load into a Tupperware container, OR stuff your face!!
